Climber Dies After Fall in Climbing Gym

Details of the accident are unknown but the climber was a beacon of the New Hampshire climbing community

A climber has died after an accident in a New Hampshire climbing gym. When responders arrived, they found the injured climber, who sources say fell up to 50 feet, with “no safety gear stopping the fall,” as reported by in Patch. “A trauma alert was immediately requested for the Elliot Hospital, and crews transported the man with life-threatening injuries. The climber succumbed to his injuries.”

Patrick Houghton with the Manchester Police said that it appears to be a tragic accident, and nothing appears to be suspicious. Several online posts went on to identify the man as Lee Hansche, 46, of Allenstown. An Instagram post on Hansche’s personal account later confirmed it.

There is currently an investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration “to determine whether or not there were any violations of workplace safety standards in connection with this incident.”

Our deepest condolences to Hansche’s family, friends and community.
