Climber Dies on Scotland’s Ben Nevis
Two climbers took a 60-metre fall, which resulted in a rescue and recovery by the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team

A 22-year-old climber died on Saturday in a 60-metre fall on Ben Nevis, Scotland’s tallest mountain. His climbing partner, an unnamed 30-year-old man, is in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The accident sparked a rescue operation during challenging weather conditions. In a statement on social media, Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team (LMRT) said, “Due to some very challenging weather conditions, combined with hazardous ground, the team returned Sunday morning to recover the other casualty who was sadly deceased.”
Police Scotland said the man’s next-of-kin had been informed. LMRT added, “We send our deepest condolences to the family, and would like to offer thanks to the crew of Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R151 and members of Police Scotland MRT North Division.”
LMRT completes several search and rescue operations each week. Their website reads: “As an entirely voluntary team, responding to calls and attending training is a huge demand on time, and it is unnerving to see these numbers rise so quickly. Taking the lead in a team like this requires extraordinary fortitude, resilience, and a remarkable ability to survive on little sleep and lots of chocolate bars.”
