Climber Dies on The Nose in Yosemite
The climber died while rappelling with a group of students. Few details have been made available

Reports of a climber falling to his death on El Capitan have been circulating over the past few days. Yosemite veteran and owner of the El Cap Report, Tom Evans, has updated his website with some new information.
Evans, who regularly posts photos of climbers on El Capitan, said on Sept. 29, “You may have heard the terrible news that a Korean climbing school instructor was killed while rappelling from Sickle Ledge on The Nose. He had several of his students with him on the route when he went down to fix lines to the deck and went off the end of his rope. Our’s is a close knit climbing community here in Yosemite and we all mourn his loss and send condolences to his friends and family in this difficult time.”
And on Reddit, a user claims to have been at the scene, wrote, “Wondering why there is no info about the climber who fell to his death on El Cap… I not only witnessed the fall, [but] he landed about 5 ft from me. My clothes, sneakers, gear were all sprayed with the ‘debris’ from his impact. It was horrendous.”
A detailed report of incidents in Yosemite going back to 1986 is regularly updated here, but the recent incident on The Nose has yet to be added. We’ve reached out to Yosemite National Park for comments and will update this story once we hear back.
