Climber Solos 570-metre Route in 49 Minutes

A new short film featuring Filip Babicz soloing Grand Capucin on the Mont Blanc massif has been released

Last year, 39-year-old Filip Babicz soloed Grand Capucin in the Mont Blanc massif in only 49 minutes. He climbed the Swiss Route with the O Sole Mio exit, a popular granite alpine line covering 570 metres of rock. A new video has been released featuring the solo.

He started up the route at noon and reached the top of the 3,838-metre peak less than an hour later. The climb often takes an experienced team around eight hours to climb. He climbed the route seven times before his speed solo, some with a partner and some without. During his speed ascent, Babicz did not bring a rope, but did wear a harness and clipped to some fixed gear along the way.

Babicz is known for his speed ascents, in 2020 he soloed Peuterey’s L’Integralissima in the Mont Blanc massif in 17 hours, and Aiguille Noire de Peuterey in one and a half hours. In 2021, he soloed the North Ridge of Pizzo Badile in 42 minutes.
