Climbers and Drones in Search on Nanga Parbat

Tom Ballard and Daniele Nardi have been missing from above 6,300 metres on Nanga Parbat since Feb. 24. A fundraiser has raised over $100,000 to pay for the expensive helicopter flights that are shuttling climbers to high camps to search, while doing flybys.

Alex Txikon was climbing on K2, but left his expedition to help in the search on Nanga Parbat. The top climber had three of his team members have established an operational centre above camp one. The team’s engineer, Ignacio de Zuloaga, will be using drones to scout the Mummery Spur, while Txikon and another team member haves et off on foot up the mountain’s lower sections. They’re hoping to reach camp three to search for Ballard and Nardi before returning to base camp.

Last week, a helicopter spotted avalanche debris with a tent, but no sign of the climbers. To help with costs of the flights, donate here.
