Climbers Bag Speed Records on Mont Blanc

The women's and men's speed records on Grand Mulets were recently set by two French climbers

A female and a male speed record has been accomplished on Mont Blanc, one of Europe’s tallest mountains. There’s a long list of spreed records for Mont Blanc thanks in part to it having so many routes to the top.

On May 16, Elise Poncet of France needed only 6 hours and 54 minutes to climb the classic Grand Mulets via the Glacier des Bossons and Arête des Bosses to finish on the summit at 4,804 metres. She then descended to the church in Chamonix – the start and end point – in less than an hour and a half, thus beating the recent 2025 speed record by American Anna DeMonte of 7 hours 29 minutes.

Ben Vedrines then climbed the same route in 4 hours and 54 minutes. He beat a previous speed record by Kilian Jornet Burgada in 2013 of 4 hours 57 minutes.

Over the past year, Vederines has climbed K2 in 11 hours, and linked the Matterhorn, Grandes Jorasses and Eiger north faces in a speedy time. He told Planet Mountain, “I believe it’s possible to do it in less than 4 hours 30 minutes. But it’s super hard. For now, my body needs to rest!”
