Climbers Compete for $100,000 in New Chris Sharma and Jason Momoa TV Show

10 climbers will go head to head in the HBO Max series debuting January 2023

Rock climbing continues its move into the mainstream. Actor (and climber) Jason Momoa and climbing legend Chris Sharma have teamed up to produce a new reality competition series for HBO Max titled, The Climb.

Premiering on January 12, 2023, the show will feature Momoa, Sharma, and pro climber Meagan Martin overseeing 10 climbers vying for a $100,000 prize and a sponsorship with Prana. Based on the trailer, it looks like the show’s contestants will compete in a wide range of disciplines including sport, trad, and multi-pitch climbing, bouldering, and deep water soloing. Locations appear to include Spain and the majestic Wadi Rum in Jordan.

HBO will release the first three episodes on January 12. Three more episodes will be released the following week, with the final two episodes coming out on January 26. In the United States, The Climb can be watched on HBO Max. In Canada, the show is expected to stream on Crave.

Here’s how HBO Max describes the series: “THE CLIMB is a visually-arresting and life-changing adventure that represents the foundations of rock climbing and exploration of the human spirit. In this all-encompassing competition, amateur climbers are put through a rigorous series of mental and physical challenges, utilizing some of the most intimidating ascents in the world to crown the world’s best amateur climber with a prAna sponsored climbing ambassadorship and a $100,000 cash prize.” You can watch the official trailer below:
