Climbers Return to America’s Highest Peak
Nearly 1,000 people have registered to climb Denali this year

Mountaineers, alpinists and skiers are once again heading north to try their luck on Denali, American’s highest peak at 6,190 metres.
According to the National Park Service, dozens of climbers have already summited, while over 200 more are awaiting to head up. Nearly 1,000 climbers have registered to climb Denali in 2025.
Among the most eagerly watched efforts on Denali this season was Anna Demonte’s bold attempt to claim the women’s speed record on skis, aiming to surpass the current fastest known time of 7 hours and 29 minutes. Tragically, her attempt was cut short when she suffered a knee injury in an accident while ascending above base camp, forcing her to abandon her record-breaking pursuit.
The first ascent of Denali was in 1913 by four Alaskana –Â Harry Karstens, climb leader, Archdeacon Hudson Stuck, climb organiser Robert Tatum, and Walter Harper. They had travelled cross country using dogsleds in sub-zero cold to reach the mountain.
