Dave Graham Repeats Creature from the Black Lagoon V16

Dave Graham has made the second ascent of Daniel Woods’ Creature from the Black Lagoon V16 at Upper Chaos in Rocky Mountain Park in Colorado. Graham wrote on Instagram, “After around 16 days of effort since the spring, I managed to figure out the incredibly subtle change to my sequence which opened the gateway for the send. After so many days of regression and frustrating conditions, late night pondering, hundreds of failed ideas, the solution had been in front of me the entire time.

“A crazy arm-torque turned stand-up yoga-type movement was the enabling addition in my sequence, allowing me to engage the undercling I battled with for so long properly, and achieve the body position I needed to keep it moving forward. I was in no way expecting any attempt would yield a send by that point in the session, and as I set off with my 101th idea of how I could make it work, it worked… probably the hardest thing I have ever climbed!”

Graham made the first ascent of Topaz V15 a few weeks ago in Wild Basin of Rocky Mountain Park. That problem has been repeated by Daniel Woods and Paul Robinson.
