Delphine Chenevier, 49, Climbs Another 5.14a

Watch her climbing at the Petzl Roc Trip in France over 20 years ago

Delphine Chenevier, 49, has climbed another 5.14a with the 35-metre Vagabond d’occid’anx in Grenoble, France. She’s now climbed six 5.14s.

“The route starts with a tough traverse on small pockets and crimps (the hardest part for me) and ends on a crispy vertical wall that requires finger strength and precise footwork,” said Chenevier on 8a.nu about Vegabond. “In the end, including the sessions I spent to find the beta, I sent it after five sessions (less than 10 times in the route).”

Chenevier climbed her first 5.13+ in the late 1990s. In 2002, she was part of the Petzl Roc Trip to Millau, you can see her climbing at around the three-minute mark in the below video. Chenevier combines a strict routine of hangboarding, MoonBoarding, core training and yoga with a few days of rock climbing every week.

Her other hard sends include Little Kings 5.14b, Sororite 5.14a, Opal 5.14a, Courte Patte 5.14a and Viande de Crison 5.14a. Chenevier said that while she doesn’t focus on climbing throughout the summer that she’s always looking for a new project.
