DiGiulian and Doyle Repeat War Hammer, Big Rockies 5.14

War Hammer 5.14 on Castle Mountain

Sasha DiGiulian and Mike Doyle have made the second ascent of Sonnie Trotter’s War Hammer 5.14 on Castle Mountain in the Canadian Rockies.

The route is a link-up of the four-pitch The Moat 5.11c, the six-pitch Castles in the Sky 5.14a and the six-pitch Eisenhower Tower 5.6.

DiGiulian arrived in the Rockies a few weeks ago with plans on climbing War Hammer, The Shining 5.14a and Blue Jeans Direct 5.14a.

The three climbs together are part of Trotter’s Rockies Trilogy, three multi-pitch 5.14s that he established and made first ascents of.

DiGiulian attempted War Hammer earlier this week with Alex Fricker, but came up short without the full ascent. Her and Doyle returned to the car at 2 a.m. after a long descent.

Trotter first connected War Hammer in 2017, three years after his first ascent of Castles in the Sky.

He completed the Rockies Trilogy in that summer with after he sent The shining variation that involves an 80-metre monster pitch that links the lower pitches together.

This was the third ascent of Castles in the Sky, which got a second ascent earlier this week by Sam Tucker and Julia Goldhoff, see here for more.
