Dolomite North Face Trilogy

Ueli Steck and Michi Wohlleben climbed the three North Face routes on Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Dolomites, the first winter link-up of all three walls, in only 16 hours.
The two climbers had no plan the morning they set out, but by the end of the day they had linked three of the most iconic Dolomite routes. First they climbed The Cassin route up Cima Ovest, then the Comici – Dimai up Cima Grande and lastly, the Innerkofler up Cima Piccola. The duo simul-climbed many of the pitches, while friends provided hot drinks and food between routes.
“We’d actually reckoned with a total time somewhere in the region of 30 hours, perhaps even more, but in the end we needed circa 16 hours (15 hours 42 minutes). We were fairly surprised, but sometimes there are simply perfect days when everything slips into place – conditions were good, the team was good, we were strong mentally,” said Michi Wohlleben in his story on Planet Mountain, “We stumbled in to the Auronzo hut at 2:00 a.m., woke up Florian and opened a bottle of superb wine dating back to 2006.”
