Emily Harrington and Adrian Ballinger Summit and Ski Cho Oyu

Emily Harrington and Adrian Ballinger have reached the summit of Cho Oyu, an 8,188-metre peak on the China and Nepal border. Cho Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world. Harrington and Ballinger arrived at basecamp a week ago. Since then, dozens of climbers have reached the top of Cho Oyu during stable weather. Manaslu, another eight-thousander, has had nearly 100 ascent this autumn. Many of the climbers are preparing for an attempt on Mount Everest later this fall.

The first woman to ski off Cho Oyu, and over 8,000 metres, was Veronique Perillat from France in 1988. Over 40 people have skied off Cho Oyu, including a previous ski descent by Ballinger in 2013.
