Edu Marin has been working on a 14-pitch mega route in Getu Valley, China, on and off for most of the year.
This spring, he worked with a few partners to equip the monster roof route. He then spent some time in Canada and Europe and is currently back in China working on what will be the most difficult multi-pitch sport route anywhere.
Called Valhalla, the 400-metre overhanging line climbs horizontally across the roof and was established ground up. Marin has described the outing as “the largest roof in the world and one of the most beautiful lines ever.”
“I had never before tried to release a multi-pich of this caliber, to climb for hours on that roof is wild,” said Marin. “The roof is about 250 metres long.”
“It’s a crazy a 3D climb and of course extremely physical. It has several pitches of 5.14 and one 5.15a. I am very happy to have bolted this monster.”
Marin will surely be putting a lot of time into freeing the complete route in a push this season.
