Eva Hammelmüller Starts Year With 5.14s

The accomplished competition climber just had an impressive trip to France

Austrian climber Eva Hammelmüller, 23, has started the year with sends of several 5.13+ and harder routes in Seynes, France. The decorated competition climber has sent nearly two dozen routes 5.14a or harder over the past few years.

This past week, she climbed 10 routes from 5.13b to 5.14-, including Métaphysique des tubes 5.13d, L’odyssée 5.14a and Les brigades du chibre 5.14a. “Seynes was an amazing choice and we had such a good time there climbing amazing tufa kinglines like Dinosaure 5.13c,” she said after her trip.

At the start of 2021, Hammelmüller sent her first 5.14d with Underground at Arco after 11 attempts. A few seasons ago, Hammelmüller made the first ascent of Covid-19 at 5.14a/b at Weyer Neu in Austria. “I’ve been trying this route since I was 14 years old, and having it done now is unbelievable,” she said about her first ascent. “The route is steep, powerful, and feels amazing to climb.”

Hammelmuller, who started climbing 14 years ago, was a two-time European youth champion in 2017 in Lead and Combined. She’s also a nine-time Austrian youth champ.
