Evan Hau Sends Cobalt Gecko, His New 5.14c at Planet X

Evan Hau has climbed a new hard route at Planet X which he called Cobalt Gecko and graded it 5.14c.

Hau wrote on Instagram, “I’ve fallen in love with these slightly off vertical routes lately. Just to the right of Iron Butterfly 5.14c.

“The route has been looked at previously but I finished up the bolting and rejigged it about a month ago.

“Took me a while to figure out a sequence through it that ended up being super cool.”

Top American climber Jon Siegrist was there for the send and didn’t waste any time getting on the route. He later said that it’s likely his favourite climb at Planet X of those he’s tried.

Siegrist made the third ascent of Iron Butterfly 5.14c last week, Hau made the second ascent earlier this year.

Hau has climbed all of the hard routes at Planet X and last fall made the first ascent of Magician’s Apprentice 5.14b.
