Experienced Climbers Missing Near Squamish

Very little information about the situation has been released other than the location

Squamish search and rescue teams and the Squamish RCMP  have issued a press released saying that they’ve launched an extensive search operation to find three missing climbers. The three experienced climbers were going for an objective in Garibaldi Park, just north of Squamish.

The recovery efforts so far have been hindered by bad weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds. The weather combined with the snow pack at upper elevations has resulted in extreme avalanche risks, which have further complicated the search.

No further information has been released regarding the identities of the missing climbers or their planned route. Authorities are urging the public to stay away from the area to allow them to work. Updates will be provided once new information becomes available.

“This inclement weather means that helicopters cannot fly right now and that’s going to slow down any search and rescue operation,” B.J. Chute, manager of Squamish search and rescue, said to the CBC. “So people need to really think about what they’re doing.”
