Feb 2, 2010 – Gadd and Emmett Bag WI 10

Ice climbing masters Will Gadd and Tim Emmett have climbed a difficult new ice route in Helmcken Falls, BC. The 30m long route overhangs 45 degrees and consists of ice blobs and daggers created by water spraying onto the wall from the falls. Both climbers redpointed the route and felt it should be graded WI 10. Unlike similar steep bolt-protected climbs which involve extensive rock hooking, this routes was climbed using only the ice features thereby explaining the team’s decision for giving it a water ice grade.
