The talented team of Simone Moro, Denis Urubko and Cory Richards have bagged the first winter ascent of Gasherbrum II 8,035 m.

The talented team of Simone Moro, Denis Urubko and Cory Richards have bagged the first winter ascent of Gasherbrum II 8,035 m.

This is Moro’s third winter ascent of an 8,000 m peak; in 2005 he climbed Shisha Pangma 8,013 m and in 2009 he summited Makalu 8,481 m. Urubko has had similar success with winter ascents. This is his second 8,000 m winter summit and in 2009 he climbed Makalu 8,481 m. Richard’s ascent is the first time an American has summited an 8,000 m peak in the winter.

Gasherbrum II is located in Pakistan and is the world’s 13th highest mountain.
