The pair got within 40 m below the top of the headwall but had to bail when Geisler hit a blank section after leading an a “eight-hour pitch of techno aid [and] taking one whipper when the flake he was hooking on ripped”. Their decision to retreat was confirmed as a storm moved in creating whiteout conditions. Once safely in basecamp, Geisler had to return home but Kruk has remained and is “ready to try again”.
