Feb 9, 2012 – Jean-Pierre (PeeWee) Ouellet Wins Guy Lacelle Pure Spirit Award

The Guy Lacelle Pure Spirit Award committee is very pleased to announce that the 2011 award has been given to the Québec crack-king, Jean-Pierre (PeeWee) Ouellet.

“The Guy Lacelle Pure Spirit Award committee is very pleased to announce that the 2011 award has been given to the Québec crack-king, Jean-Pierre (PeeWee) Ouellet.

The Pure Spirit Award is given each year to a Canadian who embodies Lacelle’s exemplary attitude and legacy: a climber who loves the game, plays it modestly at a very high level, gives back to the community, understands his place in the long history of the sport, honours the purest ethics possible and never values achievements over the environment.

Ouellet fits the criteria perfectly. He is to cracks what Lacelle was to ice: a master of the medium, completely committed to a climbing life, with ascents of the world’s hardest lines, done in immaculate style.

The Pure Spirit Award is graciously funded by Lacelle’s sponsors – Arc’Teryx, Petzl and La Sportiva. Each year the recipient gets the gear that Lacelle himself would have been given by these partners; it’s a testimony to Ouellet’s own spirit that a large portion of his award will be taken in gear that he’ll be donating to the Laurentides Climbing Club. Lacelle would be happy.”

From a press released by the award committee that includes Geoff Powter, Will Gadd and Barry Blanchard.
