Five Climbing Tips from V17 Climber Noah Wheeler

A few suggestions that could improve your spring indoor training sessions

Noah Wheeler, the 22-year-old American who’s climbed two V17 boulders this year, has released a short video featuring five of his climbing tips – watch below.

Earlier this month, Wheeler announced that he made the second ascent of Shaolin V17 (9A) in Red Rock, Nevada. Shaolin was Wheeler’s second V17, his first being Return of the Sleepwalker, which he topped in January this year.

His five tips are: warm up and rest properly, set awkward movements, amend existing climbs to make projects, train with over-difficult problems, and analyse why you fell.

“When I’m not on a trip, I generally train 2 days on 1 day off,” said Wheeler after climbing Shaolin. “The first day often consists of less intense board climbing and project workshopping, while the second day is often a longer, more intense session where I try some established board climbs and then project what I work-shopped prior. Once a week, one of these days will be an outdoor session.”
