Fundraiser for Legend Barry Blanchard After Serious Injury

He's currently recovering in a hospital and has a long recovery ahead

Barry “Bubba” Blanchard is one of North America’s most legendary and successful alpine climbers. He’s based in Canmore and works as a mountain guide for Yamnuska Mountain Adventures. Blanchard suffered a serious injury in a non-climbing related accident this week.

A fundraiser has been organized by Yamnuska, in which it says: “While on holidays, Barry slipped on some stairs, fell and hit his head. He has sustained skull fractures which have left him in the hospital. The injuries are not life-threatening and he does not need surgery as far as we know, but the injuries are significant. He will likely be in the hospital for a while while he recovers and has his family with him now. Recovery time is looking to be lengthy, and Barry will need all the help and support he can get. Barry is a big part of the guiding and climbing community, and he will need our support. He is an amazing father, partner, friend, mentor, guide and climber. Let’s show our support for his recovery through this GoFundMe for him.”

Blanchard is an honorary member of the Alpine Club of Canada, winner of the Summit of Excellence award and his book, The Calling, A Life Rocked by Mountains was shortlisted for the Banff Mountain Book Competition and won the Boardman Tasker prize for mountain literature.

We wish Bubba a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in the mountains again soon.
