General Malaise on Stanley Headwall Gets M7 Extension

Two top local winter climbers climb an arching corner and finish on steep ice

The Stanely Headwall is one of North America’s top multi-pitch mixed climbing walls with dozens of classic lines. The wall has a number of avalanche slopes, so conditions must be checked here before heading out.

Quentin Roberts and Alik Berg have completed an extenstion to General Malaise M6 WI5 90m, which was first climbed in April 2000. They climbed an additional two pitches at M6+/M7 that finishes on ice. You can see in the video below how chossy some sections are.

Two other new lines were added to the Headwall this winter: Teddy Bear Knife Fight and Don’t Stand so Close to Be. In the upcoming April/May issue of Gripped magazine, we have a feature on the Stanley Headwall.
