Jan 18, 2010 – Ghost River Seasonal Access Secured

After four years of lobbying and negotiations the Climbers Access Society of Alberta (CASA) won a seasonal permit from the Alberta Government for access into the North Ghost.

As of Jan 15, the permit allows climbers access to the staging area in front of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (GBU). CASA has also been given the right to build a track, bridge and staging areas from GBU to the Malamute Valley which will eventually allow climbers access to Valley of the Birds and other climbs to the south.

The seasonal permit and future access depends on climbers adhering to the current restrictions and it’s expected that Alberta’s Sustainable Resource Development will be monitoring the situation.

Seasonal access is valid from Jan 15 until March 31, 2010.  After that date the closure point will revert to Crossing 38.

The Ghost River is one of the world’s finest ice climbing areas with a staggering number of big, bold ice routes in a very wild setting.
