Hans Montenegro Sends Lifetime Goal with Squamish V14

Squamish climber Hans Montenegro recently climbed North Ridge V14 on Canada’s West Coast, a longtime goal of his.

“It is hard to believe that this moment arrived,” he said. “I was always working and training for this.”

Montenegro started climbing 22 years ago, when the hardest bouldering grade ever was V14. That’s why he made it his goal.

“I learned a lot. I cried a lot. I laughed a lot. I trained a lot and I changed a lot. I don’t have a physical talent. My talent is mental. It is a curse and a blessing. It’s between perseverance and insanity.

“It is an obsession and a passion. I believe that things are possible and I commit to them 200 per cent. If I say I will do it. I will do everything in my control to make it happen. If I cannot do it, I will learn from it.”
