Harrington and North Climb New Alaska Alpine Route

Juneau Ice Cap

Brette Harrington and Caro North have climbed a new 500-metre alpine climb on Southern Duke Tower above the Juneau Ice Cap.

They made the first ascent of the route on June 2 and it climbs the Northeast Face at 5.10b M5+ 85 degrees.

The two strong American alpinists dedicated their climb to Marc-André Leclerc and Ryan Johnson, who both passed away while descending from making a first ascent on the nearby Mendenhall Towers earlier this year.

Harrington and North just spent two weeks on the ice cap and are currently still in Alaska.

The Juneau Ice Cap is an ice field located just north of Juneau that stretches north through the border with British Columbia. It’s the fifth-largest ice field in the Western Hemisphere.
