Historic 5.14b Onsight for Chaehyun Seo

After redpointing La Rambla 5.15a three days ago, today she onsighted L'atangonista 5.14b

Today, South Korean climber Chaehyun Seo onsighted L’atangonista 5.14b (8c), a 60-metre monster pitch in Monstant, Spain. With this send, Seo is the second woman ever to onsight the grade. Last year, Janja Garnbret onsighted the 50-metre Fish Eye 5.14b in Oliana.

Seo said she fought hard for nearly an hour on the climb. Earlier in the day, she onsighted another impressive route, Hidrofóbia 5.13d. Her historic onsight of L’atangonista comes just three days after she redpointed La Rambla 5.15a in Oliana, Spain.

At only 19, Seo already has quite the climbing resume. She is one of the best climbers on the World Cup circuit, taking home four World Cup gold medals in a row. She also won the World Championships in 2021 and competed on the South Korean Olympic Team at the Tokyo summer games.

At only 11 years old, she onsighted 5.13b. At 12, she sent Omaha Beach 5.14a in Red River Gorge, and at 15, she sent Bad Girls Club 5.14+ in Rifle. She’s racked up an impressive string of ascents in Spain this month including Migranya Profunda 5.14a, La Pequena Mowgli 5.14b, and La Rambla 5.15a.
