An action-packed few days ended with two Korean climbers winning both lead gold medals

The Ice Climbing World Championships took place in Edmonton, Alberta, this past weekend. The event took place in the city’s downtown close to the Edmonton Oilers hockey arena in front of a big crowd. It was an entertaining event for everyone involved.
This was the first time that the World Championships took place in Canada and it was hosted by the Alpine Club of Canada Edmonton Section. “On behalf of Explore Edmonton, we are so excited to welcome the UIAA Ice Climbing World Championships to our city,” said Janelle Janis, executive director of Explore Edmonton. “As a community that embraces and celebrates our winters year after year, this event will serve as a perfect stage to show off all that Edmonton has to offer.” Climbers competed in Speed and Lead. In 2019, the event was held in Denver, Colorado.
For Women’s Lead, Korean Shin Woonseon took gold (full results) and for Men’s Lead, Korean Lee Younggeon finished in first place (full results). In speed, Louzecka Aneta won for Women (full results) and Iranian Safdarian Mohammadreza won for Men (full results). Watch finals below.
