Jakob Schubert is on Fire, See Him Send 5.15s in a Day

The Olympic bronze medalist has made quick work of new test-piece limetsone climbs in Spain

Austrian Jakob Schubert recently made the third ascent of King Capella and made a repeat of La Capella, both at Siurana in Catalonia, Spain. He climbed them both in a day. A few days later, Schubert repeated Furia de Jabali 5.15b and flashed Jungle Speed 5.14c/d, also in Siurana, and both in a day.

Schubert has said the King Capella, which was given 5.15c, is more a 5.15b, and that La Capella, which was 5.15b, is more of a 5.15a. He has yet to grade Furia de Jabali or Jungle Speed.

The first ascent of King Capella was earlier this year by British 22-year-old climber Will Bosi. Alexander Megos made the second ascent of King Capella, but has to grade it. Megos announced his repeat on Instagram, but didn’t include a personal grade, only noting that he “used slightly different beta than Will taking a very wide pinch, which felt a little easier to me than what Will did. He couldn’t do the move the way I did it though, so I guess it’s personal preference.”

Bosi also made the first ascents of La Capella and Furia de Jabali. To date, Bosi, Schubert and Megos have climbed King Capella, La Capella and Furia de Jabali. Schubert and Megos have said they will talk more about the grading in the upcoming week.
