Jakob Schubert Starts 2018 With Another 5.15b

Jakob Schubert has climbed Stoking the Fire, his third 5.15b to date and first big climb of 2018.

Schubert also noted on Instagram that it was the third ascent of the steep Santa Linya, Spain, test-piece.

The first ascent was by Chris Sharma in 2013 and was climbed again by Adam Ondra in 2016.

Schubert’s previous 5.15b climbs include Fight or Flight in Oliana in 2014 and La planta de Shiva in Villanueva del Rosario.

He said on Instagram after: “Once again I enjoyed to whole process of trying something hard a lot. It feels like I could have sent this one much faster but this way I learned some more lessons again and an ascent always feels even better if it took a bit of a psychological battle as well.

“Thanks to all my friends and the rest of the climbers that supported me so much during the past 10 days in Santa Linya! Climbing hard is just so much easier if you are surrounded by nice and motivated people and you are having a blast being outside climbing.”

Schubert noted he’ll have more to say about the climb and grade later. He broke a key foot hold, which might have made the crux trickier.
