In Feb 2010 Gripped an anonymous writer going by the name of Barry wrote a letter describing the hardships of life as a sponsored climber. The letter created some controversy and a number of climbers suspected the famous Canadian alpinist Barry Blanchard may have written it.

In Dec 2009 Gripped an anonymous writer going by the name of Barry wrote a letter describing the hardships of life as a sponsored climber. The letter created some controversy and a number of climbers suspected the famous Canadian alpinist Barry Blanchard may have written it. Yesterday Blanchard contacted Gripped and clarified that he had not written the letter. Blanchard said, “You have to point out to your readers that I am not the author of Life is Hard for Professionals. Wasn’t me who wrote it.” (No one at Gripped ever thought that Blanchard actually wrote the letter.)
Blanchard is recognized as one of Canada’s most accomplished alpinists and has recently posted some rarely seen photos of his famous first ascent of the North Pillar of North Twin with the legendary Dave Cheesmond. See here.
