Jan 23, 2012 – Norman’s Body Recovered

Carlyle Norman’s body was found in a crevasse at the base of Aguja Saint-Exupéry on Saturday, January 19.  Norman was climbing Last Gringo Standing, a thirteen pitch 5.11, with Cian Brinker on Sunday, January 15, when she was hit by rockfall and sustained serious head injuries.  Brinker remained with Norman, who was unconscious, for about two hours before deciding to descend and get help.

As best as sources can tell, Norman regained consciousness at some point, unclipped from the anchor where Cian had secured her and fell 1500 feet to the base of the mountain.

A memorial service will be held in Canmore on a date to be announced.
