Janja Garnbret Has Onsighted Three 5.14b Sport Routes

Slovenian Janja Garnbret, who’s won two Olympic gold medals and is considered one of the greatest competition climbers ever, recently made history with her third onsight of a 5.14b sport route. With Garnbret focusing more on rock in 2025, it’s likely we’ll be hearing more news from her.
Garnbret’s first 5.14b onsight was the famous 50-metre route Fish Eye 5.14b in Oliana, Spain, back in 2021. It was also the first-ever female onsight of a confirmed 5.14b. Fish Eye was first climbed by Chris Sharma in 2009. Garnbret modestly shared the news on social media, saying, “Enjoying the days in Oliana! Two days ago I did my first 8c [5.14b] onsight Fish Eye.”
Shortly after Fish Eye, Garnbret onsighted the neighbouring route called American Hustle 5.14b. The first ascent was by Sam Elias in 2014. Cedric Lachat is the only other climber on record to have onsighted Fish Eye and American Hustle. About her send, Garnbret said, “Right after I posted about onsighting my first 8c I on sighted my 2nd 8c American Hustle. Good days in Oliana.”
And her most recent is of a route called Popolni mrk 5.14b at Mišja Peč in Slovenia. About the route, Garnbret said, “Lots of rock climbing lately! Perfect conditions and my third [5.14b] onsight Popolni mrk in Mišja peč. Really proud because I consider this my hardest one till now.” And about her accomplishment, Adam Ondra noted, “Very impressive Janja. [Those] who [don’t] know this route, might not really appreciate how hard that is.”
