Jen Olson Headed to the Olympics
Jen Olson is a mountain guide and international ice climbing competitor who is seeking financial support to make her dreams come true
The Sochi Olympics are only a few months away. Two Canadians are making the trip to compete in the cultural event of mixed climbing, Gord McArthur and Jen Olson. The World Cup circuit is expensive, combined this year with the Olympics, the price tag is high. Olson, an MEC ambassador, has taken to the social crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to raise money to cover the costs of her winter competitions.
On Jen’s website she wrote:
” I have worked extensively throughout Western Canada, but also in the European Alps and New Zealand. Being a mountain guide is rewarding, but the work is physical and seasonal. It is difficult to sustain a steady income year round. Its also challenging to train for competition climbing during the guiding seasons. I have been chosen to represent Canada in the cultural event of ice climbing at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Now I just need to train and raise money so that I can represent Canada, North America, women and the sport of ice climbing on the world stage!”
