Joe Kinder Climbs New 5.15a in Utah

Joe Kinder has climbed a new 5.15a in Utah called Life of Villains at Hurricane Cave in southern Utah.

Totally. Utterly. 100% consumed.

Chris Sharma reported the news on Instagram with, “Joe has been working toward climbing 5.15 for a long time and it’s so cool to see him realize his dream.

“I’m interested though how it feels now that it’s in the bag. From my own experience, the whole process becomes so much more involved, committing and bigger than just climbing a number grade harder.

“When you finally do it the importance of the number kind of pales in comparison the experience of the whole journey. Huge props dude so happy for you!”

The Hurricane Cave was developed by Kinder and crew over the past decade.

Kinder first mentioned the Life of Villains project back in 2014 after climbing a different new route.

Kinder’s first climbing experience was in Estes Park, Colorado on a family vacation when he was 13.

Originally from New England with a strong work ethic, he eats, sleeps and obsesses over climbing.

When asked what he’s most proud of in the climbing world, he said, “I would say clipping chains on hard routes that have challenged me thoroughly.

“I believe it’s important to send something from time to time and getting to the top is what it is all about in the simple sense. All of those moments are the golden times.”
