Josh Muller Sends New 5.14d At Acephale

Josh Muller has made the first ascent of Kinder Surprise 5.14d at Acephale in Alberta.

Muller is one of the most accomplished Acephale climbers to date with a send of the area’s hardest route called Buda de Fora 5.14d and the first ascents of two 514cs called Prime Time and First Flight.

His newest route is called Kinder Surprise and it climbs through one of the steepest parts of the Upper Wall.

After his send, Muller wrote on his social media, “Sendage! So psyched to finally get the first ascent of Kinder Surprise 5.14d ish.

“This route put up a huge fight. Between the super subtle heel and the out of control low percent dyno it took all summer of rolling the dice to have this success.

“Might be 5.14c, but I think it’s harder than that. We will see after some more ascents.”

Muller also wrote that it was a bitter sweet day because “Regan [Kennedy] was so close and has worked so hard but has to walk away for the season.”

Kennedy had been projecting Ojas 5.14b at Acephale this summer, one of the most difficult slab-ish routes at the popular crag. For a video of her attempting the technical line, visit here.
