Jun Shibanuma Climbs Dreamcatcher 5.14d
The Squamish sport climb is one of the most iconic single-pitch lines in North America

Jun Shibanuma, a V15 climber from Japan, has redpointed Dreamcatcher 5.14d in Squamish after 13 sessions over the past few years.
Earlier this year, Shibanuma told 8a.nu, “I work in a company which has nothing to do with Climbing. I’m just an office worker but I work remotely so I could go to Squamish and Brazil last year. I enjoyed climbing while I was working during the daytime. I train on weekdays and go outdoors during the weekends. Sometimes I tried my project in the morning before work.”
The first ascent of Dreamcatcher was by Chris Sharma in 2007, and it was repeated by Sean McColl in 2009. The third ascent was by Ben Harnden in 2012 and then Alex Megos climbed it in 2016 after only three tries. Mike Foley sent it in 2017, Jimmy Webb climbed it in 2018 and Nicholas Milburn in 2019. In 2021, JJ Mah was first to send, followed by Paige Claassen and Michaela Kiersch, and then Lucas Uchida climbed it in 2022. There are possibly other redpoints over the years.
“Just don’t give up,” Shibanuma said about his success on Dreamcatcher. “Redpoint try went really perfect, I was able to move really smoothly.”
