Kai Lightner Warming Up in Rocklands
While he's never climbed V14, he made quick work of V13 and is feeling strong
Kai Lightner is spending some time at the famous South African Rocklands bouldering area, which he describes as a place with a style that suits him well. On his first day, he sent Sky V13.
“Finally made the three-hour drive from Cape Town to Rocklands and had a pretty awesome first day of climbing,” he said. As of today, the area is being hit with a big storm, but before it settled in, Lightner was able to tick some other classics, including Hot Zucchini V11, Time Out V12 and Flying Guitar Thief V11.
To date, Lightner hasn’t sent a V14, but has ticked a number of hard sport routes, including Southern Smoke 5.14c, Lucifer 5.14c and Era Vella 5.14d. Lightner recently announced that he was stepping away from comp climbing to focus on school and community work. He’ll be at this year’s Banff Mountain Festival in the fall. Read more about it here.
