Katherine Choong Sends 5.14c with La Ligne Claire

The top climber has ticked two 5.14d sport lines over the past few years

Katherine Choong has sent La Ligne Claire in France after a few weeks of projecting. Over the past three years, the 28-year-old crusher has climbed a number of 5.14s, including Jungfraumarathon 5.14d in 2019 at Gimmelwald, Switzerland, and Cabane au Canada in 2018 in Rawyl, Switzerland.

The decorated comp climber said in her send report that she was exhausted after the 2020 competition season, so she was looking for a route that could re-charge the stoke. After her send of Jungfraumarathon, she said, “I’m incredibly happy to have climbed this beautiful line. I had one of those rare flow experiences where you feel magically carried to the top. An incredible achievement for me and an unforgettable moment.”

Choong is an all-round climber with experience on big mountain sport lines. In 2016, she and the late David Lama climbed the classic Supertramp in the Glarus Alps in Switzerland. The 400-metre 5.11 on the north face of the Grosser Bockmattliturm was first climbed in 1980 by Martin Scheel and Gregor Benisowitsch.
