Katherine Choong Sends Her Second 5.14d

This is Choong's second route at the grade

Katherine Choong recently sent Jungfraumarathon 5.14d at Gimmelwald, Switzerland. This is her second 5.14d after sending Cabane au Canada in 2018. Jungfraumarathon is about 20 metres and overhangs nearly 45 degrees. The crux move is a throw to a bad pinch.

“I’m incredibly happy to have climbed this beautiful line,” she said. “I had one of those rare flow experiences where you feel magically carried to the top. An incredible achievement for me and an unforgettable moment.”

La Crux posted a small report by Choong that you can read here. In it, she said, “Last week, not even able to reach the crux, a friend finally suggested that I should try the guys’ method, which involves putting my foot further sideways… Then something clicks in my mind and I was again motivated and confident. The next session the route was ticked at the first try of the day.”
