Katie Lamb Sends V14s in Squamish and Japan

She adds Deadlift V14 and Decided V14 to her ever-growing list of hard boulder problems

This fall, American climber Katie Lamb rounded out her incredible year of climbing with visits to Squamish and Japan. In mid-September, she sent Squamish’s Deadlift V14. Located on the southwest corner of the giant Octagon block in the Grand Wall boulders, the steep problem is powerful and exhausting, with a very high slab exit. Squamish local legend Tim Doyle made the first ascent of the long-time open project in 2020. The line saw a string of repeats in 2022, including from Lucas Uchida, Ethan Salvo, Keenan Takahashi, and Andy Lamb, Katie’s brother. Earlier this year, it was repeated by Ben Harnden.

A little over a month later while on a trip to Mizugaki, Japan in October, Lamb climbed Toru Nakajima’s burly test piece, Decided V14 (8B+). While in Japan, she also sent the five-star Hyakkiyako V11 and Fractal V12.

Lamb started out 2023 with February sends of Spectre V13/14 in the Buttermilks and Meadowland Lark Stand V13 in Red Rock. In Colorado over the summer, she repeated Chocolate Jesus V13, Evil Backwards V13, Take it to the Grave V13, and Box Therapy V15/16. She currently holds the top spot on 8a.nu‘s world ranking of female boulderers.
