Landslide in Bow Valley’s Carrot Creek

The bottom left side of Raven's Nest Buttress was buried by a recent landslide

While rockfalls are common in the world of climbing, landslides seem less so, but a big one just took place in the Bow Valley’s popular Carrot Creek.

Sloper Climbing, the best app for rock routes in the valley, posted a photo showing the massive debris pile at the base of Raven’s Nest Buttress. It seems to have started above Gully Wall and flushed into the main area, altering the flow of the creek and burying the first few feet of some climbs.

Carrot Creek is known for its many classic sport routes, including The Warlock 5.12a, Calibrun 5.12a, Hummingbird Aret 5.11d and Hey Presto 5.10b. Another of the popular routes is Merlins Laugh 5.10b, which was affected by the landslide.

If you’re visiting the Bow Valley, some other great crags to check out are Black Feather Canyon, Stoneworks, Echo Canyon, Bataan, Grotto Canyon, Heart Creek and Grassi Lakes. Follow Sloper on Instagram for more updates from the Bow Valley, and download their app to see hundreds of climbs.
