Laura Rogora Makes History with Second 5.14c Onsight
Rogora joins Adam Ondra and Alex Megos as the third climber in history to onsight two or more climbs 5.14c or harder
Laura Rogora just announced that she onsighted La Ligne Claire 5.14c (8c+) on her final day of her trip in Saint-Léger, France. Later that day, she also onsighted the first pitch of La Tournée du Patron 5.14a, climbed the 5.14b extension on her second go, and onsighted Abrège Nief 5.13d.
La Ligne Claire has been climbed by some of the best, including James Pearson, Dylan Chuat, Manon Hily, Jonathan Seigrist and Eva Hammelmüller. Until recently, 5.14b was the hardest grade onsighted by a woman. It was Rogora who pushed the envelope in July of this year with her onsight of Ultimate Sacrifice 5.14c in Gorges du Loup, France.
Only a handful of climbers have onsighted 5.14c. Rogora’s onsight of La Ligne Claire makes her the third climber ever to have two or more onsights of 5.14c or higher. The other two climbers able to make this claim are Adam Ondra and Alex Megos.
“Last day best day?” Rogora asked rhetorically on Instagram. “After onsighting my first [5.14c] this summer I was pretty sure it would be hard to match that result, I never thought I would be able to do it a few months later!”
Rogora had an unbelievably successful trip to Saint-Léger. She recently sent La Castagne 5.15a (9a+) and Les Petits Chefs du Néant 5.14b. Earlier on her trip, Rogora sent the famous Supercrackinette 5.15a. She also ticked Le Cadafist 5.14d/15a in only four attempts and onsighted Le Concept 5.14a.
A couple of weeks ago, she made the first ascent of L’Ultimo Ruggito 5.14d in Gole del Melfa, Italy. For her warm-up that day, she onsighted Leoni Alfa 5.14b, and to cool down, she sent another 5.14b, Lo Squalo di Macerata. In early October, she also sent Il Terzo Occhio 5.14d in Castello di Drena, Arco. If there’s any climber in the world who could use a mega-project, it’s Rogora. She puts away 5.14d and 5.15a routes with lightning speed, likely meaning that she’d have success on even harder routes if she devoted more of her time to them.
