Letter from ACC to Ontario MNR About Niagara Escarpment Closure

The Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) sent an open letter to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) in response to the talks about restricting access for climbers along the Niagara Escarpment.

In conclusion, the ACC’s position is that:
• Climbing should not be banned anywhere on the escarpment, including Nature Reserves.
• The climbing community, including the ACC, should be treated as active partners in the development of any climbing management plans.
• Transitional provisions should be added to the NEP to ensure that existing climbing access will not be adversely affected while climbing management plans are being prepared.
