Long Time Ontario Climbing Gym For Sale

Of Rock and Chalk in Newmarket is up for sale for the price of $250,000

Located at 482 Ontario St. in Newmarket stands an old building that houses one of the province’s oldest climbing gyms. The walls stand at nearly 40 feet and there’re 3,600 square feet of climbing space, with bouldering, lead, auto-belays, and top-rope routes.

Of Rock and Chalk was where many climbers in Canada started climbing, like Sonnie Trotter in the mid-1990s. The gym’s owner, Bruce Wilkinson, has announced that the gym is now for sale for the price of $250.000.

“His passion for the sport became a huge part of his life and as his passion grew so did his dreams of owning his own climbing gym and introducing York Region to the sport,” the gym said in its “for sale” post on social media about owner Wilkinson. “It took a couple of years, but it was worth the blood, sweat and tears.”

If you’ve ever wanted to own your own climbing gym, then building on the legacy of this historic climber’s hub might be for you.
