Man Rescued on Annapurna Dies in Hospital

Wui Kin Chin was rescued from the side of Annapurna last week after spending 40 hours stranded around 7,500 metres. The 49-year-old climber died died in a Singapore hospital this week.

Surviving at such an altitude without water, food or supplementary oxygen for such a long time is rare, but hopes were high for Chin. The cause of death and injuries sustained while on Annapurna are not know.

Sanij Singh, physician at Mediciti Hospital, told Agence France-Presse, “His heart rate and temperature were both very low when we received him. He is suffering from severe hypothermia and has frostbite on his hands and feet.”

In a tragic glacier accident, a Sherpa died after falling in a creases near camp two on Cho Oyu. On Mount Everest, climbers are gathering at base camp for the 2019 season on the world’s highest mountain.

There have been handful of large avalanches witnessed, some from serac collapses. With so many climbers on Everest this season, there will surely be many stories to tell.
