The spry 53-year old Maurizio “Manolo” Zanolla has just bagged the first ascent of Eroi Fragili 5.14b. The 30 m route is located in Val Noana in the Dolomites and climbs a beautiful gently overhanging limestone wall.

Manolo was at the forefront of difficult sport climbing in the late 80s and early 90s with routes like Last Movement 5.13d in 1986 and The Dream 5.14c in 1991.

His recent ascents of routes like Bimbaluna 5.14d/5.15a in 2008 and Bain de Sang 5.14c/d in 2006 prove that difficult sport climbing is not limited to just young climbers.
