Max Milne Makes History with V14 Flash

He's the first climber to ever flash the grade in the U.K.

Max Milne has just climbed Bewilderness V14 at Badger’s Cove in U.K.’s Peak District for the first-ever flash of the grade in the U.K. Milne is just the 13th climber to flash the grade.

About the problem, which was first climbed by Dan Varian, Milne told UK Climbing, “It was quite surreal. I obviously knew I could do it but I’m really chuffed and it was cool that I had to fight. On this one, a lot of the moves felt fairly at my limit so I had to lock in to get it done. I am proud to have said I was going to do it and then back up what I said with my actions.”

Earlier this year, Milne climbed The Ace V13 at Stanage Edge, becoming only the second person to flash V13 in the U.K. after Adam Ondra flashed The Ace a few years ago. Milne said he’ll now focus on competition climbing as the European Championships in Villars are approaching.

Milne was joined by V17 climber Will Bosi on his flash day. About Bosi being there, Milne said, “I’ve looked up to Will ever since I was a kid climbing at Transition Extreme, and I still do now. So it was quite magical to have him there and help me through the whole process of flashing Bewilderness from the beta, spotting, encouragement and the good vibes.”
