May 26, 2010 – Canadian Anticam Solves Last Great Protection Problem

Based in Squamish, Matt Maddaloni has been searching for a way of protecting many of the area’s expanding flake systems without using bolts. Recently he devised a new gripping-style device that employs camming principles in reverse; a fall causes the lobes to move inward squeezing the flake. The device has potential as a specialized piece of climbing gear and Maddaloni is making it available as an open source design to anyone wanting to produce it. More details here.
